At Treatment Diaries we are passionate about helping those on life’s journey connect with individuals who can provide support in navigating difficult times and in celebrating the upside of a challenging situation,” said Ohm.

Coping with a rare disease or the events leading up to the eventual loss of a loved one from chronic illness require the human touch and compassion of those on a similar journey. Many emotions come into play at this time, including grief, depression, fear, and anxiety. The opportunity to electronically connect with others going through similar situations is being offered through a shared program between Blue Ridge Hospice and the global Internet resource, Treatment Diaries (TreatmentDiaries.com).
Established in September 2010 with users in 120 countries, Treatment Diaries lists over 1,400 conditions available to its users as well as the capacity for online communication, said President and founder Amy Ohm, a Clarke County resident and cancer survivor.
The virtual support group is free and always available; offering a safe place to anonymously chronicle daily journals, across more than one condition — kept either privately or shared anonymously with others. Treatment Diaries allows for shared coping strategies, support for others, and the exchange of beneficial information, Ohm said.
“This virtual resource has created a web-based community and a new support opportunity for patients and families served by Blue Ridge Hospice,” noted Ernie Carnevale, President and CEO of Blue Ridge Hospice. “Our interaction with Treatment Diaries adds yet another dimension to Blue Ridge Hospice's services to the community.”
Ohm noted that living with depression, anxiety and fear brought on by disease and end-of-life illness can be isolating and debilitating. “No one should feel alone, in fact most often connecting with others who share similar experiences can be incredibly empowering and beneficial in coping with day-to-day health challenges,” she said.
“At Treatment Diaries we are passionate about helping those on life’s journey connect with individuals who can provide support in navigating difficult times and in celebrating the upside of a challenging situation,” said Ohm.
