VehicleHistory.us.org now gives their customers the option of doing a background check on a mechanic before agreeing to let him fix their car, company officials said.
“We've always been in the business of protecting our customers,” said company spokesman Josh Fraser. “This is simply another way to do so. We feel it's a natural extension of our core business.”
The company's initial mission was to allow people to search the history of a used car before they make a purchase, so that they can find out if it has a history of accidents, flood damage, or other factors that might effect its price.
“Used car salesman are not the only type of crooks people deal with in terms of their cars,” Fraser said. “While most mechanics are hard working people, some of them are not. And the average person doesn't know enough about auto repair to know the difference. So, we want to step in and help them out.”
With the new system, Fraser said, customers can simply type in the name and address of the auto mechanic and find out if there is any history of fraud.
“It will even let you know if he or she has been in jail or is currently on probation,” Fraser said. “It just gives you the advantage of knowing exactly who you are doing business with.”
