‘Devil’s Grandson’ is a poignant and enthralling tale that follows the life of young boy who manages to excel in life despite a troubled past.

On a gray early morning, the shadowy figure of a young girl leaves a cardboard box at the end of a long driveway that leads up to a broken-down farmhouse. A newborn child in the box cries for milk. His seemingly uncaring mother walks away quickly and disappears into the mist. The child is about to begin a life of living hell. Devil’s Grandson by W. A. Bill Harris is a tale of a boy who suffers extreme mental and physical abuse at the hands of a brutal grandfather. It’s a story of courage and the will to live. The boy manages to escapes at the age of thirteen and later on, he survives and excels in life, but he can never forget his nightmare past.

Excerpt from Devil’s Grandson:

The teacher heard rumors about a wild boy running loose around the Morse farm. It was said he was half animal and had been heard barking at the moon. Nobody knew his name or anything about him. She walked to his desk. Up close, she could see some thin scars on his face. In spite of this, he was a remarkably handsome youngster. “Won’t you please stand and tell us your name young man?” He looked at her kind face. ”Please”, she asked again. He slowly rose to his feet and spoke softly. “My name is Little Bastard”, he said.

There are many forms of abuse. It’s not all extreme. That old saying “Sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you” is a lie. Sometimes unkind words can cut someone like a knife. Unfortunately, abuse is very much a part of today’s society. The author wants readers to feel his love for the grandson. He has lived vicariously through the character. As he wrote this story, he felt his pain, and was proud of the things he accomplished under difficult circumstances. He wants readers to share his troubled life and love him like the way he does.

This book is all about the evil unreasonable hatred of those who commit the crime of abuse. They have no pity and take pleasure in the pain of others. Abuse seems to be everywhere. It has touched so many people. The author hopes this book will appeal to those people and others who will stand up and say, “This has to stop.”

Devil’s Grandson is a highly engaging book that explains to readers that child abuse is a crime and it should be stopped and not be tolerated. In this present day, abuse has taken its toll and the only way to fight this is to speak up and have the courage to stand up and act.
