The Ethiopian Heritage College Scholarship is now accepting applications from students in the Washington, D.C. metro area who are graduating high school for the 2013 academic year. The deadline for submitting applications is June 28th, 2013. The scholarship is sponsored by Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata, & Siegel, P.C., a law firm based in Washington D.C.
“We have been so proud to sponsor the Ethiopian Heritage College Scholarship the last several years,” said Ira Sherman, founding partner of Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata, & Siegel, P.C. “We are delighted to announce that the first scholarship winner is about to graduate this spring. Helping a deserving student on their journey to a better education is what this scholarship is all about.”
Eligible students will be assessed based on a written essay, academic standing (high school GPA), community service, and other criteria. After reviewing each application, the committee may invite one or more applicants to a personal interview, where the students’ character, motivation, ability, and potential will be assessed. The scholarship awardee will be will be granted $1000.00 annually; the money will be provided in $500.00 increments.
Scholarship money may only be used for education-related expenses, such as tuition, room and board, and books. To maintain eligibility, scholarship recipients must demonstrate satisfactory academic performance by submitting grades and overall academic performance reports every grading period.
Washington, D.C. residents who have been admitted to a two-year or four-year university or college for the 2013-2014 academic year are considered eligible applicants for this scholarship. Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata, & Siegel, P.C. has provided information about the Ethiopian Heritage Scholarship to D.C. metro area high school guidance counselors, and requests that counselors encourage all eligible students to apply.
For the purposes of scholarship eligibility, the Greater Metropolitan Area of Washington, D.C. is defined to include Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington, and Prince William counties in Virginia; Howard, Montgomery, Anne Arundel, and Prince George’s counties in Maryland; and the District of Columbia.
