Windows 8 photo app Tap Collage has seen the weekly number of trial and paid downloads more than double since the week of Thanksgiving. SpiveyWorks, the company behind Tap Collage, released the app earlier in 2012 betting on some new platform features that will give users a unique experience. The Windows Store app was one of the first to be available when the new operating system launched at the end of October. It has a familiar set of features like many other collage apps available on other platforms, first choose a template, then insert photos and finally share the collage via email or post it to a social network. Tap Collage uses new platform features that give the user more flexibility when sharing content. Windows 8 introduced the concept of letting apps talk with each other so the output of one app can be shared as the input to another app via the Share charm. This lets individual users share the collage created in Tap Collage with other apps installed on the device that work with PNG formatted image files. This makes the sharing experience more relevant to individual needs without information overload that displays every possible social network or photo sharing service available.
Tap Collage uses the new Windows Store trial feature so users can try the app before purchasing it. The user can make collages using the trial but will have to purchase the app if they want to save their work or share it.
SpiveyWorks CEO Michael Spivey says, "Tap Collage's integration with the Windows 8 Share charm future-proofs the photo app because new services that are currently not available will integrate with this same feature and make it work with tomorrow's apps just as easily as today's. Also, with the new trial feature for Windows Store apps we can be confident that users find true value in our app before committing to a purchase. With a growing number of downloads with a trial version available it is reassuring that people are finding Tap Collage useful."
