Santa Rosa, CA (PRWEB) October 06, 2012

In a show of support for the ongoing fight against breast cancer, St. Francis Winery & Vineyards released a limited production 2011 Sonoma County Rose on Oct. 1. Created by Sonoma County Winemaker Katie Madigan, the wine honors National Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October.

"Since we started in Sonoma more than 30 years ago, St. Francis Winery has worked to better the lives of those around us, and breast cancer is a disease that has impacted so many people we know," St. Francis president and CEO Christopher Silva said. "Our goal is to support this worthy cause by donating meaningful proceeds--20 percent of sales from the 2011 bottling--to both local and national organizations dedicated to this important fight."

For each $20 bottle of rose purchased in its tasting room or online, the Sonoma Valley winery will donate $5. The donations will be split equally between the National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. and the Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa Breast Care Center. The donation represents 20 percent of total sales for the 60-case production.

The rose is a light-bodied wine that has a silky mid-palate and vibrant acidity. Aromas of rose petals, watermelon and strawberry combine with flavors of pink grapefruit and pomegranate. The varietals are primarily estate fruit--saigne of 61-percent merlot, 24-percent cabernet sauvignon, 14-percent cabernet franc and 1-percent petit verdot. A limited number of samples of the 2011 Sonoma County Rose are available upon request.

Beyond its charitable significance, the 2011 Sonoma County Rose reflects St. Francis' strong sense of place in the Sonoma Valley viticultural region through a blend made primarily of estate fruit. Guests can explore its vineyard by taking a winery tour and wine tasting daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
