Yellpedia.com, the world's first Yellow Pages/Geo-Social Encyclopedia, today announced its public beta launch and its existence as one of the largest wikis in the world with over ten million pages. Adopting the philosophy of crowd source editing, Yellpedia.com, allows everyone to edit any listing in the Yellow Pages.

According to David Bennett, President of Davelle Enterprises, Inc., a business intelligence company, which verified the size of Yellpedia, “Yellpedia is one of the largest wikis in the world, and may become the largest wiki in the world,” Bennett stated. “Considering Yellpedia only includes United States listings right now, it certainty is poised to surpass another very well-known wiki to become the biggest in the world .”

"Some people have asked me: what's the point with Facebook and Yelp in existence?" said Chris Tharp, Founder of Yellpedia.com. "And my answer is a simple one: neither of those platforms gives enough information. What insurance does the local doctor accept? Why doesn't every Home Depot, Department Store, and Grocery Store have a map of the inside of their store? Why doesn't every doctor, dentist, etc., post their new patient paperwork so I can fill it out in the privacy of my home? Since I stay in a hotel room, not a hotel, why can't I see information and photos about every room? Why doesn't every golf course have a map and page describing every hole? All that information and more can be inputted into Yellpedia.com."

Yellpedia.com was built on the same software as Wikipedia, Mediawiki, the open source wiki software. In the case of Yellpedia.com, however, the software has been modified to allow the embedding of documents, forms, music, photos, videos, and more. Each listing also has a comment section allowing the end user the ability to rate, review and comment about each listing.

"The philosophy of crowd source editing has been proven by Wikipedia," Tharp said. "By extending this model, outside of the encyclopedia format, we expect within a 2 to 3 year time frame to have the most useful directory in the world. Of course, it also helps, that we've modified the code to allow forms to be embedded. This allows every small business, or large, the ability to create shopping pages, coupon pages, contact pages and employment ads. When I first started this project I joked that it was like Wikipedia and Yelp had a baby and now I joke it's like Wikipedia, Yelp, Monster.com, & Groupon had a baby."
