Hunter, NY (Vocus) December 23, 2010
Long seen as an eco-tourist’s adventure staple, ziplining is gaining traction among celebrities, fitness buffs and families, and is poised to become the hottest travel trend in 2011. Pals Brad Pitt and George Clooney make a point to zipline whenever they get a chance, and fitness buffs love the upper body workout. More than 12,000 visitors traversed the forest canopy with New York Zipline Adventure Tours (http://www.ziplinenewyork.com ) last spring. They opened two of their three planned courses -- the Mid Mountain Tour and Adventure Tower -- in the Catskill Mountains to rave reviews and sold out tours. The third and largest, the Skyrider Tour, completed construction and will open this winter as the longest and highest zipline tour in North America.
“The thrill seekers were definitely out this season, but we also saw a lot of parents taking an untraditional approach to family vacations. The parents were scoring big cool points with their kids, who will no doubt remember this experience for years to come,” said Bradd Morse, partner in NY Zipline Adventures. “We’ve also seen more and more people asking about the physical benefits of ziplining and I think the fitness community is beginning to realize is that it’s a great upper body workout because you’re using your arms, abs and back to hold yourself upright and slow yourself down on some of the faster lines.”
New York Zipline Adventures offers tours for everyone ages 7 to 77, at every thrill level, from mild to extremely wild. Each course contains multiple ziplines and challenge elements designed to create a different experience for each guest. The Mid Mountain Tour and Adventure Tower are both great introductions to ziplining and rope courses for ziplining newcomers, as well as a good way for more daring riders to prepare for the Skyrider tour. A true canopy tour, the Mid Mountain course takes guests through the forest on six ziplines, four suspension bridges and an exciting rappel and is perfect for families in need of a little mountain adventure.
Extending more than 3,000 feet and as high as 600 feet, the Skyrider contains more than 4.6 miles of dual ziplines and suspension bridges and is North America’s largest zipline tour. With construction completed, the new Skyrider tour is open for the first time this winter season. The tour begins with a chair lift ride or off-road trek to the top of Hunter Mountain where courageous riders will soar over the tree tops and get a bird’s eye view of the forest below.
Tours start at $89 and reservations are strongly recommended due to high demand and to avoid any wait. New York Zipline Adventure Tours is located 2 hours north of New York City and open daily from 9 am to 4 pm.
