National Alpha Phi Sigma society recognizes academic excellence of criminal justice students

This national honor society provides a wonderful way for us to recognize our learners internally and also have them recognized externally by the academy and within their own communities by their membership in this honor society.

Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited*, fully online university based in Minneapolis, announced that Alpha Phi Sigma, a national honor society for criminal justice majors, has granted Capella its own honor society chapter. The society recognizes academic excellence of criminal justice and law students. An institution must be fully accredited by a national or regional higher education agency while offering a baccalaureate or higher degree in the field of Criminal Justice or Law, and petition Alpha Phi Sigma before it can start a chapter.

"We take great pride in the rigor of our programs and consistently look for ways in which to recognize academic excellence," said Charles Tiffin, PhD, program chair of Capella's Public Safety program. "This national honor society provides a wonderful way for us to recognize our learners internally and also have them recognized externally by the academy and within their own communities by their membership in this honor society."

Capella offers Criminal Justice specializations in its bachelor's, master's, and PhD online degree programs in Public Safety, as well as seven other Public Safety specializations. The National Security Agency and U.S. Department of Homeland Security have designated Capella University a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
