The war on the High Street for legal services dominance stepped up a gear today, as innovative new Legal Superbrand QualitySolicitors began a launch of 55 new branches across England and Wales, taking on big brands like Tesco, and the new Saga/AA legal services partnership.
Dubbed 'Tesco Law', a change in the Legal Services Act has led to big non-legal brands being able to explore new opportunities in legal services, with predictions that many thousands of law firms will disappear as a result.
High Street solicitors have now fought back re-branding under the new legal services ‘superbrand’, QualitySolicitors to create Britain's first ever National legal brand.
Following the successful launch of the first 15 QualitySolicitors in May, this next phase of 55 branch launches is the next step of a stated plan to have a QualitySolicitors firm in every UK town and city ahead of October 2011, when the ‘Tesco law’ changes take effect. Leading the openings, Britain’s Got Talent star Amanda Holden opened branches in Oldham and Liverpool today, with branches from Oxford to Bournemouth, Lewisham to Doncaster, following suit.
“The vision for QualitySolicitors is to create a recognisable highly trusted National legal services brand, which offers genuinely specialist and expert advice from lawyers who have worked long and hard in their local area to build an excellent reputation for advice,” says Chief Executive Craig Holt.
“In the same way solicitors would be limited in the way they could sell baked beans and groceries from their offices, we anticipate non legal 'Big Brands' may provide a limited and ultimately disappointing customer experience if they go into legal services.”
QualitySolicitors, dubbed the “next generation” of legal services, will open a number of its new branches in shopping centres with extended opening hours and a “range of new innovations designed to transform how people access legal services” says Holt.
“With a QualitySolicitors in 70 locations already and another 50 already scheduled for launch in February 2011, there is now a recognisable ‘household name’ for people with legal issues” he continued. “People no longer need to embark on the time-consuming and often stressful task of choosing between dozens of local law firms, uncertain about the service they’ll receive.”
Of the likely competition from retail brands and banks, Holt said, “Undoubtedly, the legal market will undergo a dramatic transformation – just as Specsavers, Boots and Vision Express now dominate the opticians’ market so a handful of brand names will dominate the future legal market. QualitySolicitors is the first such brand and aims to change people’s expectations of legal services, making it an easier and less intimidating process”
QualitySolicitors selects leading local law firms to become part of the QualitySolicitors brand; they then rebrand and re-launch as part of QualitySolicitors. Customer feedback is the key criterion for selection, resulting in the brand’s tag-line of ‘chosen by you’ with Holt adding, “Relying on the public’s view of firms in this way enables us to be sure our QualitySolicitors firms are the ones putting customer service right at the top of their priorities”.
