Combining iconic Southern California trail races with a brand new event, the RaceReady Trail Series will hit the road for its inaugural run beginning in June of 2012.
RaceReady, a running apparel company based in Torrance, Calif., is a leader in trail, ultra-running and marathon gear. “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to be involved with these historic and challenging races in the Big Bear and Mt. Baldy area,” said Tim Vadney, managing director of RaceReady.
“These races are among the most challenging courses in the world,” said Tom Spiegel, president of Team Big Bear. “With RaceReady providing support and clothing for the runners, it will help them be more comfortable as they run in some of the most difficult events you’ll find anywhere.”
Charlene Del Gado, a representative of the San Antonio Canyon Town Hall, which has coordinated the Mt. Baldy Run-to-the-Top since 1965 is also excited about the new series. “This is a tremendous opportunity for our organization to work with RaceReady and our friends from Big Bear, which should make this a remarkable series for all of the participants.”
The series begins with the Holcomb Valley Trail Run on June 10. Established in 1997, this year’s run will take place on June 10, and will consist of 7 mile, 15 mile, and 33 mile trail runs along the scenic Pacific Crest Trail. The event is complete with aid stations, beautiful views of the valley, and excellent trails.
The next event will be Mt. Baldy’s Annual Run-to-the-Top, held on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3. This approximately 7.5 mile run with a 4000 foot elevation gain begins at the 6000 foot elevation mark. The final mile, the steepest, is above the timber line. The finish line is atop beautiful Mt. San Antonio (also known as Mt. Baldy) at 10,064 feet.
The final event in the series is the first annual Big Bear Ridge Run, a new race featuring three distances, 7 miles, 26 miles and 33 miles run on single-track and fire roads on the south side of Big Bear Lake. This beautiful course takes runners through the San Bernadino National Forest at elevations of 7000 to 8000 ft. The Big Bear Ridge Run is scheduled for Oct. 7.
Prizes for the events will be given to the top three finishers in several groups, divided by age and gender. To be eligible for RaceReady Trail Series points, racers must participate in at least two of the three events.
