This Menlo Park home features a state-of-the-art integrated solar water and heating system installed by Reid Heating and Energy, Inc.

The system is designed to have all the components ‘talk to each other’ in order to maximize the efficiency of operation with regard to collecting and distributing the energy generated.

A newly constructed Menlo Park home has the newest in cutting edge technology for its hot water and heating needs. The unique system, installed by Bay Area Reid Heating and Energy, Inc., uses sophisticated controls to tie multiple water and heating systems together.

The control for the integrated system manages three types of water: domestic hot water, boiler water and solar heat transfer fluid, each separated by a heat exchanger.

The home was designed with an in-floor radiant heat system that makes use of a solar hot water heating system as the primary heat source for the radiant heating. The solar system is backed up by a Buderus boiler equipped with a unique combi-tank that acts as a combination hot water heater and solar storage tank.

The glazed solar panels made by Buderus are designed for year-round use as the primary heat source for the radiant heating in the winter, domestic hot water heating year-round, and for pool heating in the summer.

Bob Reid, owner of Reid Heating and Energy, Inc., is pleased with the results of this unique installation, which was designed in conjunction with Buderus.

“The Buderus control that integrates all the components of the job together is light years ahead of previously available controls in its sophistication,” said Reid. “The system is designed to have all the components ‘talk to each other’ in order to maximize the efficiency of operation with regard to collecting and distributing the energy generated.”
