RadiSys Corporation (NASDAQ:RSYS), a leading global provider of advanced embedded solutions, announced today that Italtel, a leader in the development and integration of products and services for next-generation networks (NGN) over IP, is using RadiSys' Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) integrated platform to power its next-generation multi-service network equipment.

The RadiSys integrated system gives us strong time-to-market benefits because it enables us to easily add new blades and new applications

The RadiSys integrated ATCA platform, which incorporates components from RadiSys partners, Wind River and GoAhead Software, enables Italtel to build highly available, flexible IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) network equipment to deliver voice, data and multimedia services to business and residential customers. The off-the-shelf 10G solution provides Italtel with an efficient, high-performance system that incorporates multiple functions into a single integrated platform.

Italtel selected the RadiSys integrated system because it provides time-to-market advantages, migration facility, and a feature-rich ATCA solution set.

"The RadiSys integrated system gives us strong time-to-market benefits because it enables us to easily add new blades and new applications," said Franco Serio, Italtel's chief technology officer of Multimedia Products and Solutions. "We are committed to providing our customers with leading-edge technology and services for the evolution of their next-generation network infrastructure, and the Radisys leadership in ATCA is a perfect match with our strategic objectives. The RadiSys off-the-shelf solution not only provides the ATCA architectural functionality to address our NGN and IMS products, but also it allows us greater flexibility to create a hybrid solution with our own ATCA based hardware."

To ensure high availability and facilitate failover, the system is based on the Wind River Platform for Network Equipment carrier-grade Linux operating system and also integrates middleware from GoAhead Software, the worldwide leader in open standards-based high availability and systems management middleware for carrier-grade and mission critical systems.

"The flexibility and the power of the RadiSys ATCA solution enables Italtel to meet the current requirements of its customers and networks while staying on the pulse of next-generation processing power and platform architecture," said Todd Etchieson, vice president of Communications Networking Product Management, RadiSys. 'Italtel's strategy to leverage ATCA for growth underscores its vision in adopting new technologies to penetrate new markets and create new revenue streams."
