Much of the knowledge I shared in the CLE seminar comes from years of hands-on experience representing families involved with child custody and working with child custody procedures.

Charles R. Ullman, a lawyer specializing in family law cases in Raleigh and surrounding areas in Wake County, shared his extensive knowledge of child custody issues in a recent National Business Institute continuing legal education seminar.

Ullman, a board-certified family law specialist by the North Carolina State Bar, spoke to an audience of lawyers from North Carolina and across the country in the May 15 video webcast presentation entitled, “Child Custody Procedures: Form by Form.”

“Child custody is both complex and emotionally-charged,” said Ullman of the family law firm of Charles R. Ullman & Associates in Raleigh. “Much of the knowledge I shared in the CLE seminar comes from years of hands-on experience representing families involved with child custody and working with child custody procedures.”

Ullman covered a wide range of topics in his presentation, including administrative issues, pleadings and the handling of temporary and preliminary child custody orders.

The attorney also discussed working with state child support enforcement agencies, providing tips on matters such as:

  •     Determining case assignment and Child Support Enforcement Division attorney contacts
  •     Arrears management program for state money only
  •     Satisfaction of private arrears
  •     Prisoner Outreach Program services
  •     Affidavit of direct payments
  •     Policy on Certificate of Compliance for driver’s licenses
  •     Automated enforcement
  •     Caseworker work and attorney work
  •     Drafting workable orders for entry into CSED automated enforcement.

Ullman’s insights come from years of working effectively with the Child Support Enforcement Division and his other experiences as a board-certified family law specialist.

Board certification is a designation given only to North Carolina attorneys who have extensive experience in their area of practice, who have been favorably evaluated by other lawyers and judges and who have passed a written examination in their specialty practice area.

A Raleigh native and graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill, Ullman has been practicing as an attorney since 1993. He started his own firm in 2000. In addition to being a seasoned trial attorney, he is also a trained collaborative law attorney.
