Rapids Foodservice Contract & Design Employees Recognized and Awarded for Obtaining CFSP Certification

Three employees of Rapids Foodservice Contract & Design Services, a division of Rapids Wholesale Equipment Co., recently earned their Certified Food Service Professional (CFSP) certification and were awarded a scholarship from the Foodservice Equipment Distributors Association for their achievements. They undertook this training to improve their understanding of the foodservice industry as a whole so that they will be better equipped to serve customers.

Three employees at Rapids Foodservice Contract & Design Services, a distributor to and division of Rapids Wholesale Equipment Co., were recently honored by the Foodservice Equipment Distributors Association (FEDA) for earning their Certified Food Service Professional (CFSP) credential from the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM). The FEDA Education Foundation awarded each of them a scholarship for their efforts.

Joe Schmitt, President and CEO of Rapids Wholesale Equipment, says, “The real key to success for our business has been to focus on developing and training all of our employees. In the past few years, we have all been devoting significant time to education. Our staff, as a result, is equipped with the expertise, motivation and problem-solving capabilities needed to maintain a high level of customer service. For this reason, Jim Ottmer, Angie Haberer and Micah Holper’s efforts to expand their knowledge of the industry via CFSP training are exemplary. I hope that they inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”

Ottmer, vice president of sales who has been with the company for 10 years, says he pursued the CFSP designation because it provides an “overall knowledge that supports our industry,” and it “better enables us to meet the broad spectrum we service in an effective manner.”

Haberer also emphasized the importance of quality customer service. She has been with Rapids Foodservice Contract & Design for a year and a half but has been in the industry for quite some time. She says the training was helpful in her role as project coordinator, as it familiarized her with “areas in the industry that I am unfamiliar with, such as smallwares, hood systems, safety and sanitation.” She elaborates that she has always been involved on the equipment side and that the CFSP training “has given me a much better overview.”

Holper, a project coordinator and design specialist with the company for two and a half years, also says the training improved his knowledge in areas that he does not deal with on a regular basis. And he also adds that gaining the CFSP certification “gave me more in-depth knowledge on items that I already knew something about.”

Doing so takes a highly trained and industry-savvy staff, and achieving this is not an easy task. Those who took part in the training dedicated six months of both personal and group study time, in addition to taking the CFSP Overview to achieve the designation.

Rapids Wholesale Equipment has encouraged employees at its various branches to take advantage of the various training tools FEDA offers, in addition to taking part in specific manufacturers’ factory training as well as internal training modules.

Indeed, several of these recently honored employees have previously earned other certifications that better prepare them to serve customers. Ottmer has a Sandler Sales (President’s Club) designation and Holper has earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate Certification.
