It is important to help our neighbors in need. That is why RCN will also be donating $1500 to the Greater Boston Food Bank in support of this campaign, in addition to the Sponsorship.
Boston, MA (Vocus) December 16, 2009
RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading provider of video, data, and voice services to residential, business and commercial/carrier customers, announced today its sponsorship of WAAF’s 18th annual Walk and Rock for Change event. All proceeds will benefit The Greater Boston Food Bank.
This truly rockin’ event started with two DJs walking two routes to Boston from Manchester, NH and Worcester, collecting money to help the hungry along the way. Over the past 17 years, they have raised more than $1,000,000 for The Greater Boston Food Bank. This year, the three-day event that begins on December 16 will also benefit the Worcester and New Hampshire Food Banks. Through “Walk and Rock for Change,” WAAF will raise awareness about hunger on-air during their “pay-to-play” marathon. Listeners will call into request songs—the more unusual the song, the more it will cost to play.
“RCN is excited to join WAAF and the local food banks to help stamp out hunger in our community by supporting the ‘Walk and Rock for Change’ event,” said Richard Wadman, General Manager of RCN Boston. “Especially this time of year, it is important to help our neighbors in need. That is why RCN will also be donating $1500 to the Greater Boston Food Bank in support of this campaign, in addition to the Sponsorship.”
Once again, WAAF’s team will be “walking and rocking for change” with co-hosts of the Hill-Man Morning Show Lyndon “LB” Byers making the trek from Manchester, NH to Boston along Routes 3 and 3A, and Anthony “Spaz” Parziale walking Route 9 from Worcester to Boston, collecting change as they go. Greg “Hill-Man” Hill will be on air starting at 6am each day to play caller requests for donations. Callers can phone toll free (888) 517-WAAF or donate online at http://www.waaf.com.
