Real Estate Agent Donates a Portion of His Commission to Charity
Scott Zelkin of @properties Makes a Difference by Sponsoring Charity Guide
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 14, 2006 -- Non-profit organization Charity Guide announced today that local real estate agent Scott Zelkin will be sponsoring Charity Guide by donating a portion of the commission he receives from each real estate transaction.
Funds generated by Zelkin's commission-donation program are to be directed towards promoting volunteerism that protects human rights. An example of this type of volunteer project is shown at CharityGuide.org/Zelkin .
"Donating part of my commission to a local non-profit organization is my way of giving back," said Zelkin. "It’s a winning situation for everyone involved – the charity, the client and the realtor. The more successful I am, the more I can give."
This innovative promotional technique is not new for Zelkin. He pioneered the commission-donation program while building a real-estate client-base in New Hampshire. There, Zelkin donated a portion of his earnings from every real estate transaction to the Seacoast Hospice, a local charity in Exeter.
Zelkin recently returned to Chicago and is now a realtor with @properties, a Chicago-based real estate firm. A native of Wilmette, Illinois, Zelkin maintained his ties with Chicago through real estate investments and family.
When Zelkin moved back to Chicago, he looked for a new, local non-profit organization to sponsor. Zelkin prefers to work with a charity where he will be able to see the results of his contribution and have a greater influence on how the money is used.
After interviewing Charity Guide's executive director Michael Organ, Zelkin was struck by how well Charity Guide's mission resonated with the philanthropic goals and lifestyles of his peers and prospective clients. The mission of Charity Guide is to inspire and facilitate truly flexible volunteerism. Through its Web site, CharityGuide.org, the organization helps busy people with unpredictable schedules volunteer from anywhere and at anytime, in as few as 15 minutes. Featured volunteer projects support causes such as animal welfare, children's issues, and environmental protection.
"CharityGuide.org lets busy people take action for an important cause when they might not otherwise be able to do so," said Zelkin. "Would-be volunteers can help their favorite cause in a way that fits their lifestyle."
"Clearly, I’m delighted by Scott’s generous support," said Organ. "But here's what you should know about Scott: He is an outstanding guy with a dynamic personality and a fascinating background as a former NHL referee. He does not need to be so generous to differentiate himself when attracting potential clients, but I hope his fine example inspires others to do the same."
Zelkin graduated from the University of Denver in 1990 with a degree in finance. Prior to his career as a real estate realtor, Zelkin served for 13 years as a top referee for the National Hockey League. He now resides in Chicago's Old Irving Park with his wife and young son, and is still active in amateur hockey.
Charity Guide is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting flexible volunteerism, by inspiring and facilitating acts of kindness. CharityGuide.org features volunteer service projects that can be accomplished in 15 minutes, a few hours, or during a volunteer vacation. We reach out to "would-be volunteers" on the cause of their greatest interest, and at the moment of their greatest willingness to act.
Visitors to CharityGuide.org can make a difference for animal welfare, children's issues, community development, environmental protection, health & safety, and poverty reduction.
