Moves in Halifax average at 34 miles, the shortest in the UK, whilst residents in Inverness move the furthest distance at 300 miles.

The recent Migration Monitor survey conducted by reallymoving.com reveals urban centres are losing popularity with movers in Q1 2010 who are looking to buy new houses in rural areas, such as Bournemouth and the West Country. Homeowners view the early stages of economic recovery as an ideal time to move up the property ladder and buy a previously unaffordable house in the country. House prices are expected to rise slowly, and smart movers are keen to invest early before the market re-gains momentum.

The data also reveals that houses in the country and in dynamic provincials provide far more space for the price paid than in the capital, with London coming bottom in a survey of average space available throughout the United Kingdom.

In addition the first quarter of 2010 has experienced dynamic internal migration throughout the country, with moves of varying distance undertaken. Moves in Halifax average at 34 miles, the shortest in the UK, whilst residents in Inverness move the furthest distance at 300 miles. The country’s average move is 70 miles, which is equivalent to the distance between London and Folkestone.

Inverness has become the most popular postcode area whilst Uxbridge is the least popular. Uxbridge has struggled, like other regions popular with first time buyers, to attract interest from cash-strapped youngsters who have had their access to bank finance reduced.
