“In our practice, we attempt to ensure that our clients receive appropriate compensation, but also that the community is served by changing the practice of medicine..." — Andrew C. Meyer, Jr.
Boston, MA (PRWEB) February 16, 2011
Well-known medical malpractice attorneys, Andrew C. Meyer, Jr. and Benjamin Novotny of Lubin & Meyer, PC, have settled the medical malpractice case (Suffolk Superior Court, 08-3123-D) against Tufts University psychiatrist, Kayoko Kifuji, M.D. for $2.5 million for the tragic overdose death of 4-year-old Rebecca Riley. Even before reaching this groundbreaking settlement, Meyer’s case garnered national media attention on the hot-button-topic of the over-prescribing of powerful psychiatric medications to toddlers. According to court documents, the girl was prescribed a psychotropic drug cocktail including: Clonidine (a sedative), Depakote (a mood stabilizer), and Seroquel (an anti-psychotic).
Though pleased that the lawsuit filed on behalf of Rebecca Riley's Estate settled for the maximum insurance available, Attorney Meyer insisted that financial compensation was not enough. Known for his policy-changing settlements and verdicts, Meyer demanded that the settlement require Tufts Medical Center to set up educational and outreach programs to provide more mental health services for children in the hope of preventing others from suffering a similar fate. In a statement Meyer said, “In our practice, we attempt to ensure that our clients receive appropriate compensation, but also that the community is served by changing the practice of medicine as best we can — by educating doctors and getting hospitals and medical professionals to correct dangerous problems.”
As leaders in the field of medical malpractice and personal injury law, Lubin & Meyer, PC, has consistently achieved record-setting verdicts and settlements. The firm's attorneys are tireless advocates for patient safety and are committed to providing unparalleled legal representation to the victims of medical malpractice and their families in the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
