Houston, TX (PRWEB) December 12, 2013
A news story detailing a fatal car crash in north Houston serves as a reminder that speeding and reckless driving can greatly increase accident risk and have fatal consequences, according to Gene Hagood, a car accident lawyer in Houston at Hagood & Neumann.
KHOU (“Couple killed after truck goes airborne in north Houston neighborhood”) reported on November 8 that two people were killed in the early November accident after the driver of an SUV lost control of his vehicle, launching it into the air and striking a telephone pole.
“Unfortunately, speed-related accidents take a deadly toll in Houston and throughout the Lone Star State. Speeding drivers have difficulty braking and maneuvering their vehicles. They have less time to react. Other drivers and pedestrians have less time to react if a speeding vehicle is approaching. In this tragic instance, the driver was unable to maintain control of his speeding vehicle,” said Hagood, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents.
According to KHOU, the driver was speeding through the 6600 block of Irvington Boulevard in Houston’s north end when he lost control of his Chevrolet Tahoe while approaching a dip in the road near a railroad crossing. Police believe the driver was traveling at such a high rate of speed that the vehicle was sent airborne.
Police told KHOU that the vehicle then struck a telephone pole on the opposite side of the railway. The SUV spun and the driver and passenger were ejected. Both lost their lives as a result of the crash, according to KHOU.
“While the cause of this crash is under investigation, our attorneys in Houston know all-too-well that many speed-related accidents often have other contributing factors. Drivers who are impaired by drugs or alcohol, distracted by cell phones or portable electronic devices, or engaging in street racing with another driver are all at high risk to cause a speed-related accident,” said Hagood, a personal injury and car accident attorney in Houston.
Hagood said that it’s important for accident victims to remember their legal rights in the event of an accident. Attorneys can help victims pursue compensation for their losses and hold the negligent individual or company accountable.
