Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 18, 2012
Burg Simpson is pleased to announce that associate Reeves D. Whalen has been appointed by Denver Public Schools Superintendent, Tom Boasberg, to serve on the 2012 Denver Public Schools Citizen Planning Advisory Committee (CPAC). Mr. Whalen was appointed, along with other established Denver community members, business professionals, DPS parents, and Denver taxpayers to meet over the next six months and advise The Denver Public Schools on possible November bond and mill levy overrides. The 2012 DPS CPAC will examine the district's need to update its aging school facilities and possibly add new schools due to overcrowding and enrollment growth, as well as how a mill levy override could be used; for example, to expand early education opportunities and school enrichment programs and provide more class time.
“Education has always been a passion of mine. It led me to teach as a substitute guest teacher in the Denver Public Schools; it took me into the homes of students as a youth mentor; and it led me to travel and visit schools in Haiti and on reservations in South Dakota. I feel privileged to work on the committee with such a great group of dedicated business and community leaders,” Mr. Whalen commented on the appointment.
