While profit opportunities are hard to find, leaders in the industry have learned that an experienced team following best practices offers the best chance at maximizing refinery and petrochemical profits.
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) May 01, 2012
Senior consultant Joe Barth of Solomon Associates, the leading performance improvement company for the global energy industry, is conducting a two-day Refinery Economics Seminar (RES) in conjunction with Haverly Systems’ Asia 2012: Seminar & Courses, June 5–7, in Singapore.
The RES course will help operators improve profitability by providing hands-on examples that demonstrate Solomon’s unique approach to the complexities of marginal economics and Linear Program (LP) models.
“Solomon’s RES course is intended for anyone who takes part in the development of refinery operating plants or helps decide business strategy,” said Barth. “While profit opportunities are hard to find, leaders in the industry have learned that an experienced team following best practices offers the best chance at maximizing refinery and petrochemical profits.”
The seminar is valuable for crude and feedstock traders, product marketers, supervisors, and process engineers, as well as the economic analyst. No prior knowledge of refinery economics or use of LP models is required to attend.
Topics covered in the seminar include:
- Differences between average and marginal costs.
- How to calculate refinery netback prices.
- Why the “herd mentality” is so common in the industry.
- How to use LP models to guide decision making.
- How to evaluate crude and feedstock purchase opportunities.
- How to evaluate incremental product sales.
- Limitations of shadow values.
- Planning and optimization of best practices.
As a senior consultant, Barth has been with Solomon Associates since 2004. His career includes 33 years with ExxonMobil in the planning and optimization of refining and petrochemical complexes.
Barth will also present a paper on “Establishing Confidence in Your Crude Assay” on June 7 during the free, one-day closing seminar at Haverly’s Asia 2012: Seminar & Courses. Barth’s presentation will help attendees have more confidence that their crude assay matches the actual crude processed.
Solomon’s RES course will be held June 5–6 at Suntec City Guild House in Singapore’s Suntec City Mall.
