The 21st annual Rehoboth Autumn Jazz Festival, held at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, packs the seaside resort town with smooth sounds for five days of great jazz performances from October 13-17.
ResortQuest is offering 10% off vacation rental accommodations for the Rehoboth Autumn Jazz Festival -- from $90 per night, plus fees -- in Ocean City and nearby coastal Delaware, including Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, North Bethany, Ocean View and South Bethany, as well as the area's finest, amenity-filled communities of Sea Colony, The Village at Bear Trap Dunes and Bayside. Delaware beach real estate for sale and Delaware beach vacation rentals, available through ResortQuest, include oceanfront condos.
The Contours, featuring Sylvester Potts, and Slim Man opening the show, kick off the annual jazz celebration on Wednesday night, Oct. 13, for the kick-off party, which doubles as a fund raiser for Beebe Medical Center.
Thursday's entertainment features The Rehoboth Smooth Jazz Project, starring Nick Colionne, Steve Cole, Marc Antoine, Jeff Kashiwa, Jackiem Joyner, Brian Simpson and Gerald Veasley.
Grammy-winning writer and keyboardist Johnny Neel is joined by Ed Shockley for the Friday and Saturday afternoon Jazz Fest Happy Hour at The Cove. At Blue Moon Restaurant on Friday and Saturday nights, jazz guitarist Carey Smith, inspired by Charlie "Bird" Parker, takes the stage in the dining room, while Pamela Stanley offers "An Evening of Jazz Classics and More" in the lounge.
Boney James, with special guest Matt Marshak, headlines the Friday night show at the convention center.
Master musician Jason Miles, with special guests Walter Beasley and Kashiwa, tells tales behind smooth jazz's greatest songs and artists on Friday at the Theatre of the Arts.
Saturday's jams begin at the convention center with Veasley's Salute to the Philly Sound, featuring Will Downing, Carol Riddick, Beasley and Colionne. Up next, at the Theatre of the Arts, is The Latin/Funk Encounter, with Antoine, Simpson and Kashiwa. A late afternoon session, at Epworth Church, features Colionne and Cole. The Cove hosts at Saturday afternoon Jazz Happy Hour.
Award-winning singer-songwriter Doug James, whose tunes have been performed by the likes of Michael Bolton, Joe Cocker, Barry Manilow and Dionne Warwick, joins Rehoboth Beach's Kevin Mack, guitarist of Patty Smyth and Scandal fame, Saturday night on the Epworth Church stage.
Saturday's convention center entertainment is Remembering a Legend... Celebrating the Music of Grover Washington Jr., featuring a variety of artists, and the day ends with The Rehoboth Avenue Groove, starring Four80East, Marshak, Joyner and Paul "Shilts" Weimar, at the Theatre of the Arts.
The festival wraps up on Sunday with the Gospel Brunch at the Bay Center, The Carey Smith Trio (including Dave Wundrow on bass) at The Blue Moon and the Super All-Star Smooth Jazz All-Star Grand Jam at the convention center.
