Remuda Ranch, a comprehensive treatment center specializing in eating and co-occurring disorders for women and girls, is a sponsor of the 6th Annual Healthy Eating and Living (HEAL) Conference in Asheville, N.C. from May 30-31, 2013, at the Mountain Area Health Education Center, Biltmore Campus. The theme of the conference is “A New Look at the Who, What, Where and Why of Eating Disorders.”
Dr. Cynthia Bulik, PhD, FAED, Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders, Department of Psychiatry University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Professor of Nutrition in the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and Director of the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders, will present at the conference. Her research includes treatment, laboratory, animal, epidemiological, twin, and molecular genetic studies of eating disorders and body weight regulation.
Dr. Bulik developed treatment services for eating disorders both in New Zealand and in the United States. She is a recipient of several awards including the Eating Disorders Coalition Research Award, the Academy for Eating Disorders Leadership Award for Research, the Price Family National Eating Disorders Association Research Award, IAEDP Honorary Certified Eating Disorders Specialist Award, and the AED Meehan/Hartley Award for Advocacy.
A free community event on Thursday, May 30 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. will provide community education and resource sharing for anyone interested in the topic of disordered eating to help answer questions, dispel myths and rethink beliefs about eating disorders.
