Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate, trademark brands of BaseCamp Franchising, announce that of the 87 Kid to Kid and 38 Uptown Cheapskate locations throughout the United States, 50 percent are owned by multi-store owners.

“BaseCamp Franchising’s robust support infrastructure, combined with discounted franchise fees and royalty rates for multi-store operators, enables franchisees that want to expand past single-store operations to build a larger business for their families and their communities,” said Dave Martell, Business Development Specialist at BaseCamp Franchising.

Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate both offer current, stylish, gently used items. Kid to Kid buys and sells new and gently used children’s and maternity clothes, toys, books, and baby gear. For teens and young adults, Uptown Cheapskate buys and sells new and like-new name brand clothes, shoes, jewelry and handbags.

As an owner of three Kid to Kid and two Uptown Cheapskate stores, Shannon Unger realized the efficiencies in running multiple locations after opening an Uptown Cheapskate next door to her first Kid to Kid store. She explains, “BaseCamp Franchising has built their employee training and certification modules and operational procedures in a way that makes owning multiple stores easy to manage. Plus, through expanding the number of locations I'm also expanding the number of jobs I can provide and that's really important to me.” Unger plans on expanding with rights to open two more locations within the next three years.

The cross-brand ownership model of BaseCamp Franchising allows stores to be located next to each other, a contrast to franchise models where additional stores need to be located in separate territories. “There is a tangible synergy between the two concepts,” added Martell. “We’ve found great success locating a Kid to Kid next to an Uptown Cheapskate and building a pass-through between them. Moms can easily shop both concepts and find things for both their kids and themselves in one visit.”
