ActiveAccess Launches ASCE Research Library Now For American Society of Civil Engineers; Web 2.0 Technology Provides Research from a Desktop Application

Alerting and Search Functionality Allows Users to Stay on Top of Latest Research from Library of Publications, Journals and Studies

CHANTILLY, Va. (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) November 12, 2008 -- ActiveAccess, (http://www.activeaccess.com), a digital content delivery platform offered by BIA Information Network (BIN), announced today that it has designed and launched ASCE Research Library Now, a dynamic desktop application, to be used by the Publications Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE - http://www.ascelibrary.org/). Users will have access through their computer desktops to a digital library of more than 50,000 full-text papers from ASCE journals and proceedings, in addition to new editions of the Civil Engineering magazine, and streams of ASCE video and podcasts.

ASCE Research Library Now puts access to our librarys catalogue of research and periodicals directly into the hands of the civil engineering community, many of whom need the ability to quickly use our resources several times a month, said Bruce Gossett, managing director of publications at the ASCE Research Library. The ActiveAccess desktop technology creates a convenient tool that will provide greater ease of use but also a method for us to customize alerts to our community about new research and monthly publishing schedules.

The ASCE Research Library website receives more than one million visitors each month. The ASCE Research Library Now was created to provide visitors who would ordinarily go the web with easier and customizable access to ASCEs comprehensive catalogue of civil engineering resources. The application contains the ASCE Research Library search bar for immediate input of criteria that will search the complete library and resources of ASCE to help streamline access to the information. In addition, the application provides tool buttons for ASCE and engineering news, RSS news feeds, and weather information, as well as quick access to tabs containing the library book store, the ASCE Career Connections, and the ASCE magazines.

Associations such as ASCE can provide more exposure to their resources through ActiveAccess unique content delivery platform, said Tom Buono, President and CEO of BIA Financial Network, parent company of BIA Information Network. Desktop applications offer a communication tool that stands out prominently from its members daily barrage of emails and Web information.

ASCE Research Library Now can be downloaded at http://www.asce.org/librarynow. The ActiveAccess technology can operate in any PC environment and does not interfere with corporate servers or network environments. Members and non-members of ASCE will be able to access the desktop application through a light-weight download that requires about as much memory as a single webpage, containing no adware, spyware or malware. The application is flexible in that it can be customized in many ways. Once installed it only requires access to the Internet.
