ResortQuest Steamboat Implements Trial Use of Green-Key™ Paperboard Electronic Keycards at Trappeur's Crossing Resort

ResortQuest Steamboat Vacation Rentals, a property management company in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is trialing new environmentally friendly keycards at Steamboat's premier lodging resort, Trappeur's Crossing Resort. The new paperboard Green-Key™ electronic keycard is a greener way for guests to access their condos.

Green Key

Our team has passionately stepped up to the plate to make it happen. We're excited and motivated by this award, however, we are also the first to recognize that we have a lot more to do to stay green. This is only the beginning!

The Green-Key is made in the U.S.A. The keycard, which looks just like standard plastic electronic keycards, is made from a renewable and biodegradable resource. The slick and classy keycard is also recyclable.

ResortQuest Steamboat Vacation Rentals is trialing the Green-Key™ keycards across the six lodges at Trappeur's Crossing Resort. This luxury resort makes up over 80% of ResortQuest's Steamboat condos that require electronic key, and 50% of their total lodging inventory.

ResortQuest's staff has been testing the keys throughout the summer and the management team is now excited to have our guests and owners test this key during the 2008/2009 Steamboat ski season.

"A room-key seems like such an insignificant part of your vacation, but if it doesn't work well, it can be very frustrating for our guests," said ResortQuest Sales and Marketing Director, Katy Martin. "This winter, as soon as we are satisfied with the feedback, we will expand the use of these keys across all of our properties that use electronic keycards."

The trial is part of ResortQuest Steamboat's commitment to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association Sustainable Business Certification program. In November 2008, ResortQuest Steamboat was awarded Gold Certification status in the Chamber's Sustainable Business Program.

The Sustainable Business Certification requires that a business demonstrate a reduction in energy usage, a plan to reduce, recycle and reuse as much of their waste stream as is feasible, and to put in place water conservation practices. Additionally, a comprehensive analysis of policies, practices and purchasing habits is undertaken so that improvements can be identified.

Other sustainable initiatives being implemented by ResortQuest Steamboat include a comprehensive guest recycling program. Each of ResortQuest's 300+ vacation rentals will have recycling receptacles which will be collected daily by a special Green Team. Paper, paperboard, plastics 1-7, glass, tin, and aluminum will all be stored and collected separately from non-recyclable trash in containers and recycling centers provided by the company.

This ski season, ResortQuest is transitioning to Cascades North River recycled tissue paper products and walnut shell kitchen scrubbing sponges. They have also started using Thymes Eucalyptus recyclable paper bottles for individual in-room shampoo, conditioner and lotion. They take the place of a multitude of small plastic bottles which generated a great deal of non-recyclable waste. Guest information on sustainable practices is included in the check-in package, and guests are welcomed to their vacation home with a delectable gift of chocolate confectionary created by Yepello Chocolates & Confections, hand-made in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

"A great deal of hard work and commitment went into earning the Gold certification", said Martin. "Our team has passionately stepped up to the plate to make it happen. We're excited and motivated by this award, however, we are also the first to recognize that we have a lot more to do to stay green. This is only the beginning!"
