Restquip Inc, the leading US provider of certified pre-owned restaurant equipment to dealers and chain restaurant operators, announced its plans to provide its brand of rebuilt equipment items to its customers made primarily by two American manufacturers, Hobart and Taylor Freezers, both headquartered in Illinois. The program dubbed “Rebuild Quality” removes broken and worn equipment, such as mixers and ice cream machines, from the waste stream and rebuilds them back into near new condition for reuse.

Restquip Inc. (, which provides certified pre-owned (“CPO”) restaurant equipment to the restaurant industry, has announced its plans to specialize in rebuilding equipment from just two iconic American brands, Hobart Inc. (est. 1897) and Taylor Freezers (est. 1926) going forward.

Fred Phillips, President and CEO of Restquip, announced this change in focus today based on several factors related to the evolving US foodservice equipment marketplace. “Global competition is finally making significant inroads into the foodservice equipment industry, and is making it difficult to provide our quality rebuilt equipment to our customers at competitive prices. Lower priced equipment , mainly manufactured in Asia and the EU, are providing what we feel is a less than long lasting solution for the industry’s equipment needs” Phillips said. “In many cases, well known American equipment brands re-badge these Asian and EU products with their names to imply American-made quality, both to survive and remain price competitive in the marketplace. It is understandable from an immediate business needs standpoint, but we feel it is not the best solution for their reputation, or our customer’s needs, in the long run.”

Restquip recently completed a CPO Taylor ice cream project for Burger King Franchisees, and provided Hobart mixers to operators ranging from Straw Hat & Round Table Pizza, to a myriad of local operators across the country. “We sold some large, updated OSHA-approved Hobart mixers to operators just last year, that were built in the 1960’s – before there even was an OSHA.” Phillips said.

Restquip’s focus on specific Hobart and Taylor Freezer equipment items comes from its long term experience with the brands. “There are antique Hobart mixers in use in restaurants and bakeries today that date back to the 1930’s, that still fire up every morning. Taylor machines made ice cream in US Naval vessels in World War II pretty much the same way the current design machines do today. These aren’t computers that can be obsolete in months…these are workhorses that do a great job day after day, decade after decade.” Phillips said. “You can’t beat long term quality, so when we rebuild and certify an equipment item from these companies, like those 1960’s Hobarts, we know that our customers will get decades of service from them. And by this re-use, we keep this equipment from winding up in a landfill, or being shipped overseas as scrap; we provide jobs here; we save our customers time and money; we provide quality time proven equipment that will last, and we operate as a green business – a win-win for everyone.”

Restquip will soon announce both Taylor Freezer and Hobart programs for its chain customers, ranging from a small Hobart mixer restoration programs for KFC franchisees, to shake machine replacement programs for Arby’s and Jack in the Box operators. Information on these programs will be the subject of future releases.
