When it comes to their reputations as employers, just who is the nation’s favourite retailer? Which company do the UK’s retail professionals most admire? For which retailer who they most like to work and why? These are the questions at the heart of a major new survey being conducted by leading retail careers media InRetail.co.uk and The Appointment Magazine.
Following a series of high-profile company failures and widespread store closures, the retail industry’s reputation as a safe, progressive employer has taken something of a battering – but with whom would those in the know, the retailers themselves, most trust their careers? The ‘Retailers’ Retailer’ survey will not only seek out these answers but also the key drivers behind their opinions. In today’s volatile employment marketplace is it all about job security? How much does a person’s experience as a customer influence their opinion, is commercial success the biggest attraction or even a company’s ethical trading policies?
Commenting, Calum MacLeod, editor of The Appointment Magazine and creative director of InRetail.co.uk, said: “This survey isn’t just another back-slapping beauty parade, we’re endeavouring to measure the mood and motivations of an industry under fire. Which companies’ do the industry’s professionals believe have most to offer when it comes to career paths and, as importantly, what is driving these perceptions?

With this benchmark established, an identical survey will be conducted in six months as a means to measure shifting trends in employment branding within the retail industry.
