As the contingent of Spanish speaking Americans continues to grow, one company is changing with the times. Screen Solutions Inc, the Austin, Texas distributor and sole North American retailer of the popular Plissé style retractable screen for doors and windows, is launching a Spanish-language version of their website.
"We felt we were doing a disservice to a large portion of the North American market by not offering our product and services in the native language of Spanish speaking customers," explains Douglas J. Bennett, proprietor of Screen Solutions Inc.
Screen Solutions is based in Austin, Texas where nearly a quarter of the 1.7 million people in the metropolitan area speak Spanish. According to the 2010 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, Spanish is the primary language spoken at home by almost 37 million people aged five or older, a figure more than double that of 1990.
According to the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University, we are beginning to see homeowners spend on home improvement again. With a 10 percent jump last year to approximately $126 billion nationwide and projections for as much as 20 percent this year, Screen Solutions is geared up and ready to ship thousands of their custom built retractable screens to homeowners across the United States and beyond - whether primarily English speaking or Spanish speaking.
Retractable screens offer homeowners the unique advantage of an easy DIY project for the weekend that returns nicely with improved home value as well as practical daily use. For an investment of only about $200 homeowners are able to enjoy more of their outdoor space, protect their home and family from unwanted pests and save on energy.
"Normally, it would seem that installing screens is a rather mundane task but in this particular case, I not only wanted affordable, highly functional screens that retract but I also wanted the ability to open my doors on a sunny day to let the air from the Sound cool our place without worrying about bugs and wind blowing open the screens. This will add a whole new dimension to our living space," says Leslie McQuistin of Washington about her custom built Plissé retractable door screen.
