"Starting with iTunes and iOS music, Rexly is sewing the social fabric between the music services and social networks to power the ultimate social music experience.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 27, 2011
Today, San Francisco based Rexly is launching its simple answer to the question that millions of consumers – and the media – asked during last week’s Facebook announcement: What about Apple?
Rexly is launching a bridge between Apple’s iTunes and Facebook – and Twitter, for that matter.
“Rexly answers the question that media and consumers, en masse, asked during Facebook’s recent announcement: ‘What about Apple? What about the music we already have on our devices?’” said Rexly co-founder Bradley Lautenbach.
Rexly is a simple, iPhone application that allows user to play iTunes music and playlists, share their favorites to social media and see what their real friends are listening to in real-time. And there’s no need to adopt a different music streaming services.
According to Rexly Co-Founder and CEO Joel Resnicow: "Rexly solves a huge problem by integrating the biggest social network with the most popular music platform. For music to be truly social, social and media services need to be seamlessly integrated but stay in the users’ control: Maybe you don’t want everyone to know what you’re listening to at any hour of the day. We plan to to incorporate more services very soon, so you’ll be able to discover music through friends no matter what service they use."
Through Rexly, users can listen to their iTunes music and playlists already located on their iPhones. Users can share their favorites to Facebook and Twitter, as well as to see what music friends are listening to in real-time. Musical activities appear as a story item in a stream, upon which others can “like” or leave comments. They can also purchase songs and albums directly from iTunes. The key difference between Rexly versus what Facebook announced with Spotify is that users can share as much or as little as they’d like. Rexly users are in complete control over who sees their activity and what gets shared to social media.
Rexly launched in Spring 2011, their first version made for the web. After releasing its iPhone application this week, Rexly will soon expand its offerings to integrate with Pandora, Spotify, and more -- complete with highly contextualized recommendations, similar artist highlights, popular music, and the opinions of critics and influencers.
"Starting with iTunes and iOS music, Rexly is sewing the social fabric between the music services and social networks to power the ultimate social music experience. As a third party application, Rexly can make all the services work together in harmony to their own benefit. Plain and simple, we want you to enjoy the services you already use even more, and benefit from the taste of trusted friends no matter what service they use."
How does Rexly work?
Firing up the Rexly iPhone application couldn’t be more simple: Download, login via Facebook, listen to music with your friends.
Starting Tuesday, September 27th, Rexly will be available in the Apple App Store for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, and function much like the iPhone’s native iPod App music player, with the added feature that your friends will also be there. With Rexly, users can instantly access their iTunes library and playlists, just like in the native player.
Users can then view, sample, and share any song to the two dominant social networks: Facebook and Twitter. Rexly includes “up-vote’ and ‘comment’ options, as well as song dedications to Facebook friends. And according to Rexly Co-Founder & Product Lead Bradley Lautenbach, Rexly’s personalized “music feed” is the most powerful innovation within the app: "The Rexly social music feed is the most compelling piece of this app. It is an algorithmically sorted feed of your friends’ listening activity, which highlights music you’ll like from friends you trust most. In a dead simple interface, Rexly users are in complete control over how much they share, and which friends appear often in their feed. Serendipity, user trust, and ease of use are paramount to the Rexly experience."
