Registration is now open for Ringling College of Art and Design’s PreCollege Perspective summer program. The four-week residential art program is open to high school students, ages 16 to 18, who are currently enrolled in 10th through 12th grade. Students from around the country and abroad study the arts at one of the nation’s most prestigious colleges of art and design, while earning three units of college credit. The program runs from June 23 through July 20, 2013.

For more than 20 years, Ringling College of Art and Design’s PreCollege Perspective Program has helped to prepare high school students for their transition to art college by offering them an opportunity to experience college life and study an undergraduate-level visual arts curriculum. The program, led by Ringling College faculty, combines intensive studio instruction in five fundamental art and design courses, with in-depth, major-specific immersion workshops. Students build their knowledge of materials and technique, strengthen their ability to solve visual problems, and develop the tools to create strong portfolios for college admissions and scholarships. Portfolio preparation, the college application process, and future career planning, are addressed in workshops led by representatives from Admissions and the Center for Career Services.

PreCollege students live on campus within walking distance to academic buildings and campus resources. Accommodations are single-gendered and double-occupancy. Ringling’s Residence Life staff provides supervision and guidance. The self-contained campus includes state-of-the-art studios, labs that feature the latest industry specific software, seven gallery spaces, a library filled with content specific to artists, fitness and health services centers, and cafés with inviting lounge areas. Student Life programming complements the students’ experience.
