Flood Law Group is announcing that it is currently available to review Risperdal (risperidone) lawsuits on behalf of male patients who took the medication and developed gynecomastia, the enlargement of male breast tissue.

According to Flood Law Group, male patients who develop gynecomastia may be entitled to compensation for surgery to correct the condition as well as for the emotional pain and embarrassment caused by the condition.

Risperdal is a prescription medication used to treat severe psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, and acute mania. In some cases, it is prescribed in conjunction with antidepressants for the treatment of severe depression.

According to Flood Law Group, use of this drug may be associated with the growth of breast tissue in some male patients.

According to an article published by the Wall Street Journal, P. Murali Doraiswamy, a Duke psychiatrist and co-author of a study conducted with FDA scientists on antipsychotics and prolactin, said changes in prolactin can cause adverse effects for young people whose bodies are changing and developing. Doraiswamy notes in his research that Risperdal has a higher link to gynecomastia in children and adolescents than any other antipsychotic, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Gynecomastia is the swelling of breast tissue in boys or men. It can affect one or both breasts. Although gynecomastia is not a life-threatening condition, it can lead to embarrassment and other emotional problems.

Symptoms of gynecomastia include breast tenderness, swollen breast gland tissue and in some cases, nipple discharge. Severe cases will require surgery to remove the breast gland tissue. The procedure is called mastectomy.

According to the attorneys at Flood Law Group, boys and men who develop gynecomastia after using Risperdal may be entitled to financial compensation. The firm is announcing that it is available to review potential lawsuits on behalf of patients across the country. For more information or to schedule a consultation, call 1-760-479-5416.
