Labor Day weekend is approaching and with it comes the 34th annual Colorado Balloon Classic, which is also Colorado's largest Air Show. The award winning, admission free, annual family event will be held September 4, 5 and 6 at Memorial Park in beautiful downtown Colorado Springs. Rivalry Rage, Inc. is excited to be among this year’s sponsors for this historic event.

The Colorado Balloon Classic (a division of Colorado Springs Balloon Classic, Inc.) was organized in 1977 and has grown to be the largest and the longest continuously running hot air balloon festival in the Rocky Mountain Region as well as the State of Colorado. This year’s event boasts 67 registered pilots and 63 balloons. Some of this year’s most exciting shaped balloons include: the Energizer Bunny (due to winning an international online vote); Hamlet the Pig (a pig shaped balloon with the inscription ‘When Pig Fly’); and Marv’n the Martian. Additionally, there will be demonstrations by the Pikes Peak Powered Paragliders Club, US Air Force Academy Wings of Blue Parachute Demonstration Team, as well as a variety of musicians, concessions, and vendors to enjoy.

This is the first year Rivalry Rage has been an active participant in the Colorado Balloon Classic. Rivalry Rage is a sports focused social website that provides sports fans around the global to support their favorite teams. “Our goal is to fuel the sports passion that is already a large part of many people’s lives. We are excited about growing this company in Colorado Springs and we hope to create new jobs and opportunities in our community,” said Eve Jones, Co-Founder of Rivalry Rage, Inc. The Rivalry Rage management team decided to sponsor this event as a way to get more involved in the Colorado Springs community. Jones is also Co-Founder and Director of Human Resources for ISSAC Corp, a local defense contracting engineering company. ISSAC Corp aggressively invests in local charities, including Project Angel Heart, Pikes Peak Boy Scouts of America, Energy Outreach Colorado, Ronald McDonald House of Southern Colorado, Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado, and Newspapers in Education. They also support the Susan G. Komen Cancer foundation and the Seena Magowitz Foundation that is searching for a cure for Pancreatic Cancer. “Our lives have been blessed and we are always looking for ways to give back to the community. As Rivalry Rage grows, our staffing plan will be focused on hiring local veterans. My husband, Tim, is a retired Navy veteran and we want to help our soldiers, airman and sailors find fulfilling opportunities after their great sacrifices in defending our freedom,” Jones said.

One the highlights of the Colorado Balloon Classic is the Balloon Glo© which is held just after dusk the two nights of the Colorado Balloon Classic. Thousands of people show up each evening to enjoy incredible spectacle. The balloons do not launch, but instead glow huge and beautiful against the evening sky. The Colorado Balloon Classic is also a way to reach out to the community to support local charities and non-profit activities. This year, the Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado is asking the public to donate nonperishable items, especially Cheerios.

Patsy Buchwald, President/CEO of the Colorado Balloon Classic, has been named a ‘Woman of Influence’ by the Colorado Business Journal for her numerable professional accomplishments and consistent efforts to give back to the community. Patsy is also a member of the Pikes Peak 99s and was formally inducted into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame of the Colorado Aviation Historical Society in 2009. She was nominated by Pikes Peak Chapter of the International Ninety-Nines (licensed female pilots).
