Milford Hospital, a full-service medical center in Connecticut, desired to measurably improve their medication administration process. The existing medication carts were cumbersome and lacked the mobile computing systems necessary to electronically track the details associated with inpatient medication delivery.

As an initial step towards the deployment of Meditech’s Electronic Medication Administration Record software (EMAR), Milford Hospital’s nurse, pharmacy and IT management teams decided to explore other delivery options. Lynn Christensen and Maureen Smith, executives in Milford Hospital’s IT and nursing departments, contacted Enovate IT for ideas. “We were looking for medication carts that readily integrated with mobile computing systems. We were especially impressed with Rubbermaid and EnovateIT’s ability to deliver a powerful, small-form-factor computer and long lasting battery on a fully functioning medication cart,” stated Lynn Christensen, Milford Hospital CIO.

EnovateIT crafted a custom solution comprised of Rubbermaid Medical Solutions medication carts, light-weight mini-PCs, infection control keyboards and mice, and 17” flat panel monitors for easy viewing of data by clinicians. Doug Gallacher, Enovate IT Regional Manager, said “We handled all of the on-site integration and handed to Milford Hospital carts ready to be rolled onto the floors. Our focus on the hardware will allow Milford to focus on the software implementation and clinical workflow improvements as they move forward.”
