“‘The Promise’ provides the reader with a level of escape from the busyness of our everyday lives. People in our society need opportunities to take a breath and reflect on things that are good and right.

Robert Cosby masterfully weaves rhythm and rhyme, poetry and prose in his debut poetry collection featuring “The Promise” (published by Xlibris). Evocative, enthralling and edifying, this book explores universal themes of love, reflection, family and communing with nature; taking every reader to a poignant journey of reflection, motivation and peace.
“The Promise” is a collection of contemporary poems about life, offering the reader an opportunity to reflect on each piece for purposes of motivation, inspiration and centering one’s self. It offers a cleansing breath from the rancor and anxiety promoted by a focus on what is wrong in today’s society as opposed to looking at what can be positive. This book gives readers a chance to look at the glass half full.
Uniquely, the charm of Cosby’s book extends to its candid chronicling of his experiences that carry freight in terms of sharing the author’s look at life experiences that others can relate to. The poems give the reader a chance to pause to reflect. And, most important, when the reader is ready, having visualized the poems and the setting, the reader may be able to look at the world again, perhaps through a slightly different lens. “The Promise” also incorporates some of his photography.
“‘The Promise’ provides the reader with a level of escape from the busyness of our everyday lives. People in our society need opportunities to take a breath and reflect on things that are good and right. Sometimes events and experiences are tough to understand and accept. This book provides a level of relevance for the reader to cogitate upon and perhaps smile or think about the meaning even after the poems are read,” Cosby shares.
A compendium of his experience and education, this anthology endeavors to impart to readers the benefits of meditation and the appreciation for poetry as a pause that refreshes. “The Promise” is as enchanting and entertaining as it is restorative and raw.
