Robert G. Beard Jr. traces U.S. history back to its founding and condemns today’s income tax system in “The U.S. Individual Income Tax Is Incompatible With A Free Society: A Legal Justification for the Abolishment of the IRS and Replacement of the Income Tax with a National Sales Tax” (published by Lulu).

Beard’s new book claims that the U.S. tax system is incompatible with the 4th and 5th Amendments that disallow unreasonable search and seizure and the deprivation of life, liberty or property, without due process. “Our founders understood that a tax on a person’s labor was tantamount to slavery and that is why we had no income tax while our Founders were still alive,” Beard stresses.

An excerpt from “The U.S. Individual Income Tax Is Incompatible With A Free Society”:

“In ‘Boyd,’ Justice Bradley explained… ‘any compulsory discovery by extorting the party’s oath, or compelling the production of his private books and papers to convict him of crime, or to forfeit his property, is contrary to the principles of a free government.’ If Justice Bradley were alive today… the income tax laws… would be considered repugnant to the Constitution… and accordingly, ruled null and void.”

To further his point, Beard explains, “Congress is investigating the IRS. Several non-profit organizations are currently suing the IRS. At least one U.S. Senator is calling for the abolishment of the IRS. Our tax system is incomprehensible and fraught with unconscionable civil and criminal penalties, which can result in incarceration for a longer period of time than someone who actually kills another person.”

The main theme of Beard’s new book is that the U.S. tax system is incompatible with a free society. “If we desire rightful liberty – defined by Thomas Jefferson as ‘unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others – I do not add “within the limits of the law” because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the rights of an individual’ – we will work towards the elimination of the income tax and the abolishment of the IRS.”
