“Shy Jenny” (published by Trafford Publishing), which is getting a new marketing push, is author Robin Taylor’s children’s book which shows children how love and companionship can help them overcome any obstacle.
Jenny is a young girl who hides behind her long flowing hair. Without many friends, she spends most of her time with her secret “best friend,” a sock doll that acts as her teacher and supporter.
Taylor knows Jenny’s struggles firsthand. Deaf by the age of six, Taylor was very shy about meeting people and communicating. With speech therapy and surgery, she regained most of her hearing and overcame her shy tendencies.
An excerpt from “Shy Jenny”:
“Sometimes she was happy… Sometimes she was sad… Jenny’s BEST FRIEND was ‘Mr. Navy’! He was the only one she would share her secrets with… He was a small sock doll that her Father gave her when she was just a baby.”
Through the story of “Shy Jenny,” Taylor hopes readers learn that with love and companionship, they can overcome anything. “There are many shy children who deal with all kinds of different issues,” she says, “from stuttering, to having glasses or no teeth, being hard of hearing and more.”
