New York, NY (PRWEB) May 07, 2012
Rocket21, [the only social networking platform designed to safely connect kids and teens with professionals and experts representing industries, professions, passions, and movements that span the globe], joined with National Geographic Channels to announce the official participation of seventh grade Rocket21 member Tommy Whiteley in a four-day press tour for the new Mini-Series Event, Untamed Americas, to be held in Yellowstone National Park beginning May 6th.
As an official press member for the tour, 12-year old Whiteley will represent Rocket21 youth members from all across the country, and will be blogging and communicating with his peers on Rocket21 before, during, and after the trip. Rocket21 founders recommended Whiteley for the trip, based on his active participation on Rocket21, where he has expressed his deep passion, curiosity, concern, and knowledge regarding nature, animals, and the environment.
The tour will include stops in Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley and Hayden Valley, with extensive opportunities to observe and learn about an amazing array of wildlife including gray wolves, mountain lions, black and grizzly bears, big horn sheep, bison, bald eagles, and many more. The trip will feature extensive interactions with filmmakers and wildlife experts and naturalists, including multi-award winning director and series producer Karen Bass, producer/cinematographer Andy Mitchell, and Yellowstone Expert and Naturalist Casey Anderson, as well as a screening of the premiere episode of the series, Untamed Americas: Mountains. The series is narrated by Academy Award-nominated actor, Josh Brolin, and will premiere in the U.S. June 10-11 on National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo WILD and Nat Geo MUNDO.
“Kids on Rocket21 have expressed an intense interest in having access to authentic experts and content in fields related to animals and nature,” said Mark Grayson, Rocket21 CEO. “We couldn’t be more excited to have Tommy representing our community as we begin this new collaboration with National Geographic Channels – which, among other things, will enable Rocket21 members to engage directly with their amazing experts.”
“We love the idea of kids and teens and their parents learning about “Untamed Americas” through the eyes of a student, especially one who has already developed such love and respect for nature,” noted Chris Albert, Senior Vice-President, Communications Worldwide & Talent Relations, National Geographic Channels. “The potential for youth engagement with our content and experts through this dynamic, new alliance with Rocket21 is significant and enhances the collaboration with our partners at National Geographic Education to connect with youth, parents and educators.”
“I was first drawn to Rocket 21 as a way to broaden my lifelong love of animals. This new Rocket21 project with National Geographic Channel is exactly what I envisioned,” added 7th grader, Tommy Whiteley. “It is an honor to be asked by Rocket 21 to represent my generation of future naturalists on this amazing trip to Yellowstone. I look forward to meeting all of these talented people responsible for the making of Untamed Americas.”
The Yellowstone National Park press tour is the first step in a new collaboration between Rocket21 and National Geographic Channels.
