S.T.E.M. disciplines are critical throughout our company and industry" noted RFR President Steve Newmark. "With Rocket21, we'll help kids learn about how STEM figures into winning – and introduce amazing science and engineering careers in our industry.
New York, Charlotte, N.C., and San Francisco (PRWEB) September 07, 2012
Rocket21, (the only social networking platform designed to safely connect kids and teens with professionals and experts representing industries, professions, passions, and movements that span the globe), joined with Roush Fenway Racing and Charlotte Motor Speedway to announce a collaboration that will harness the popularity of NASCAR to help kids consider how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (S.T.E.M.) are applied in professional racing.
Rocket21 is hosting an essay and video competition which invites kids and teens under 18 to consider what drives their passions, how elements of S.T.E.M. figure into their dreams, and what they would most like to learn about professional auto racing.
Rocket21 members will engage with Roush Fenway Racing drivers, crew chiefs, mechanics, engineers, designers, and more – to learn about the science and engineering of racing from an insider’s perspective. In October, a Rocket21 member and his or her family will attend the Dollar General 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the historic Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
“Science, technology, engineering, and math are fundamental to professional auto racing,” said Mark Grayson, Rocket21 CEO. “Our Dream Big at the Races experience and activities with Roush Fenway and Charlotte Motor Speedway will get kids talking with racing industry PROs about how concepts kids are learning in math and science are being applied at the track in every race.”
NASCAR Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Trevor Bayne, the youngest winner in the history of the Daytona 500, will be key players in the Rocket21 program.
“Trevor and Ricky are great competitors and good friends, and both understand the critical role that our Roush Fenway Racing engineering staff contributes to our teams’ legacies of success,” noted Steve Newmark, president of Roush Fenway Racing. “Science, technology, engineering and math are critical to our drivers’ safety, our company’s environmental footprint, and our competitive advantages. We’re delighted to help kids learn more about how S.T.E.M. figures into winning – and also to introduce amazing science and engineering careers in our industry.”
“We’re always searching for ways to engage young fans at Charlotte Motor Speedway and this partnership with Rocket21 certainly gives us that opportunity,” said Adrian Parker, director of communications at Charlotte Motor Speedway. “The Dollar General 300 will be a shining example of S.T.E.M.’s role in the field of competition. While a select few will win the behind-the-scenes, V.I.P. treatment, it’s important to note that all kids 13 and under can get in free to the Dollar General 300 with a paying adult.”
