The Team From PipesandCigars.com Inside The Rocky Patel Cigar Factory

I returned from this trip with a new level of knowledge about my industry, a new sense of appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into making cigars, and some amazing memories from a once-in-a-lifetime traveling experience.

PipesandCigars.com is a leading online tobacconist specializing in carrying the Internet's largest selection of cigars, pipes, pipe tobacco, humidors, and other smoking accessories. The company was recently invited by the Rocky Patel cigar company to travel to Honduras to give PipesandCigars.com employees and customers a first-hand look at their operations. General Manager Zak Medwin, Marketing Director Travis Lord, and Graphic Designer Josh Crystal were the three PipesandCigars.com employees who made the trip, and they were joined by seven customers who also traveled with them.

The PipesandCigars.com team flew from Albany, NY to Tegucigalpa, Honduras on Sunday, September 23 and were met by Nimish Desai, Rocky Patel's cousin and Executive Vice President of the Rocky Patel Cigar Company. The group traveled to Danli, Honduras, and spent the next three days touring the Rocky Patel cigar factory, the processing plant and box factory where the Rocky Patel company purchases tobacco and boxes, as well as the country's tobacco plantations.

The group from PipesandCigars.com was able to see the entire process of making a cigar, from the seeds and planting process right down to the final rolling of each cigar and the process of boxing and shipping them out. Each member of the group was also given the opportunity to blend and create their own personal cigar from a variety of fine tobacco selected by Rocky Patel.

"Attending this trip was a truly incredible experience," said Zak Medwin, PipesandCigars.com's General Manager. "I'm very grateful to the Rocky Patel company for inviting us, and providing such gracious hospitality for the entire trip. I learned an incredible amount about how cigars are made, especially the amount of effort from so many people that goes into creating a single handmade cigar. As both someone who works in the cigar industry as well as a cigar smoker and hobbyist, I gained much from this experience. I returned from this trip with a new level of knowledge about my industry, a new sense of appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into making cigars, and some amazing memories from a once-in-a-lifetime traveling experience."

In addition to the tours, the group was able to sample a wide variety of Rocky Patel cigars, including the Rocky Patel Private Cellar cigars, one of the company's newest offerings scheduled for release in late October. Other selections included the Rocky Patel Decade, Rocky Patel Sungrown, Rocky Patel Vintage 2003, Thunder by Nimish, Rocky Patel 50th Anniversary, and Rocky Patel Edge.

The company has posted a number of photos, descriptions, and cigar reviews from the trip on their TalkingTobacco.com cigar blog, as well as their Facebook page.
