Digital Advantage for eBooks Module Provides Critical Diagnostics of Retailer Sales Data

RoyaltyShare, Inc. is the leading provider of global digital revenue management and reporting solutions for the music and book publishing industries.

“The ability to identify pricing anomalies on a transaction-by-transaction basis in sales reporting is a must-have operational need of the agency model,” said Kenneth Michaels, Chief Operating Officer of Hachette Book Group.

RoyaltyShare, Inc., a leading provider of digital revenue management and reporting solutions, today announced the launch of Sales Feed Price Validation, an important enhancement to its industry leading Digital Advantage for eBooks™ platform. This new module provides book publishers with a crucial tool for identifying and managing transactions in which the actual sale price reported by retail agents is not in accordance with the price set by the publisher, potentially saving tens of thousands of dollars in lost revenue and preventing downstream reporting errors. Book publishers distributing eBooks under the retail model may also use the tool to validate that e-retailers are using the proper suggested retail selling price established by the publisher, an important mechanism for assuring proper payment from e-retailers.

"Book publishers are facing a variety of complex data management issues resulting from the rapid growth of eBooks sales, particularly with the advent of the agency model," said Bob Kohn, Chairman and CEO, RoyaltyShare, Inc. "We worked closely with Hachette in the creation of this price validation feature as they were among the first publishers to clearly articulate an urgent need for an automated solution to identify and manage pricing errors in sales reports."

RoyaltyShare's Digital Advantage for eBooks, which was launched earlier this year, offers publishers a proven solution for dealing with large, complex digital revenue streams from dozens of eBook retailers. The solution builds upon the company's years of experience serving record labels and distributors in the music industry for whom RoyaltyShare has processed billions of music download and streaming transactions wherever in the world they occur.

The Digital Advantage service delivers substantial cost savings while increasing the accuracy and transparency of digital revenue data. The platform currently supports the revenue data feeds from over 30 digital retailers and distributors worldwide, supporting both the agency and retail model, including Amazon (Kindle, Audible, CreateSpace and AmazonMP3), Apple (iBookStore, AppStore, and iTunes), Barnes & Noble, Sony, Kobo, Ingram Digital, Ingram Lightning Source, Overdrive, and others.

"The ability to identify pricing anomalies on a transaction-by-transaction basis in sales reporting is a must-have operational need of the agency model," said Kenneth Michaels, Chief Operating Officer of Hachette Book Group. "This newest evolution from our key partner helps us to optimize the management of the digital sales channel and meet the new requirements of the digital age for our authors while delivering specialized, automated solutions that are too cost ineffective to do manually."

Sales Feed Price Validation is available as an add-on module to Digital Advantage for eBooks clients. The new feature includes:

  •     The ability to store and view both current and historical published prices of eBooks
  •     Automatic diagnostics of transactions within retailer sales feeds to confirm that the actual sales price conforms to the publisher price established for the eBook--either the actual selling price set by the publisher under the agency model or the suggested retail price established under the retail model
  •     The ability to separate transactions containing errors from approved transactions, thereby preventing unapproved sales from reaching downstream accounting and royalty systems
  •     Audit reports and application views that simplify the tracking of price exceptions when broken out from an original file
  •     Intelligent tools for reviewing and addressing identified pricing errors
