I guarantee that if you try out Newsline Pro, you won't be using Google Reader after July 1st, 2013.
Castro Valley, CA (PRWEB) June 04, 2013
Fortunate Bear announces the launch of Newsline Pro, an Atom and RSS feed reader web app. The app fetches and stores the feeds for up to a year as well as keeps track of which posts have been read or favorited. Newsline Pro comes with a 14 day free trial; after the trial period, the app is available as a subscription service for $36 a year or $5 a month. The server side code for Newsline Pro is open sourced under the MIT license.
Newsline Pro is a responsive, HTML5, Retina enabled web app, allowing users to access and sync their RSS feeds from any device or computer. It supports fetching both normal feeds and authenticated feeds (HTTP plain auth only). It stores fetched posts for up to a year, and tracks if those posts have been read or favorited by the user. Favorited posts are kept indefinitely.
Newsline Pro allows importing from an OPML file at any time, or from Google Reader directly until July 1st, 2013. Users can also easily export an OPML file from the web app at any time, meaning they are not locked into the service.
The server component of Newsline Pro, called just Newsline, is responsible for fetching and storing the Atom and RSS feeds. It provides access to these feeds through a well-documented Application Programming Interface (API). This allows both 1st and 3rd party clients to connect and use the RSS feed reader service. Although only a web app is currently available, Fortunate Bear is planning to provide Mac OS X and iOS versions in the future.
The Newsline server software is open sourced under the MIT license. This allows 3rd party individuals or companies to set up and maintain their own Newsline servers. The server software integrates with Google's reCaptcha, the FastSpring payment service, and Panic's Status Board iPad app, allowing easy user sign-ups, payments, and server monitoring.
