The $150K fundraising goal will be used to build a shelter for the victims of sex trafficking and children of sex workers.

Most people don’t realize that roughly three million women and girls worldwide are victims of sex trafficking and many die in their late 20s of AIDS.

The award-winning travel company Adventure Life is proud to announce a partnership with The Lost Girls and Village Volunteers for the Runaway Bridesmaids Fundraiser to help fight sex trafficking. The Lost Girls are gathering a team of 100 men and women to run The 5th Avenue Mile in New York City on September 22, 2012 wearing old bridesmaids, prom, or other fancy dresses and collecting pledges for Village Volunteers. Adventure Life is encouraging participants by offering an eight-day Peru tour to the individual who collects the most pledges. “This is a fantastic cause that we are very happy to support,” said Brian Morgan CEO of Adventure Life. “Most people don’t realize that roughly three million women and girls worldwide are victims of sex trafficking and many die in their late 20s of AIDS.”

Donations to Runaway Bridesmaids go to Village Volunteers' partner, New Light -- which has provided shelter, educational opportunities, recreational facilities, healthcare and legal aid for the children, girls and women in India's Kalighat community for more than a decade.

“By taking a moment to pledge or to join the Runaway Bridesmaids fundraising team, you can begin to break the cycle of sexual slavery,” said Morgan.

The individual who donates or collects the most pledges wins Adventure Life's Classic Peru tour, which includes visits to Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, and Cusco. Travelers will also visit the Casa de Acogida Mantay, a women’s shelter that supplies young single mothers with a safe environment where they are counseled, educated, and given training. Visits to the Inca ruins of Sacsayhuamán, Pisac, and Ollantaytambo are also part of the tour.
