On June 17, 2011, former Ryla Teleservices, Inc. (“Ryla”) call center employee Anewbis Hargrove (“Hargrove”) filed an action in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, on behalf of himself and others similarly situated, to recover unpaid overtime wages under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Mr. Hargrove claims in his complaint that Ryla required customer service representatives to perform uncompensated work before and after their shifts. That work included booting-up computers, initializing software programs, setting up "call backs," and reviewing work related emails. Hargrove’s complaint also claims that Ryla frequently failed to pay its call center employees regularly and in full on their regularly scheduled paydays.

This case is entitled Hargrove v. Ryla Teleservices, Inc. It follows five other actions filed by other Ryla employees, also brought on behalf of themselves and others similarly situated, which complain of similar wage and hour violations in Ryla’s call centers in Kennesaw, Georgia; Saraland, Alabama; Lafayette, Indiana; Clovis, California; and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Hundreds of other customer service representatives have already joined those five cases. The other cases are entitled Slaughter-Cabbell et al. v. Ryla Teleservices, Inc., Civ. No. 1:11-CV-00202 (N.D. Ga.), Robinson et al. v. Ryla Teleservices, Inc., Civ. No. 1:11-CV-00131 (S.D. Ala.), Swarthout et al. v. Ryla Teleservices, Inc., Civ. No. 4:11-CV-0021 (N.D. Ind.), and Shea et al. v. Ryla Teleservices, Inc., Civ. No. 1:11-CV-00626 (E.D. Cal.); Dickenson et al. v. Ryla Teleservices, Inc., Civ. No. 11-CV-1208 (D. Co.)

Plaintiffs in all six of these cases are represented by Nichols Kaster, PLLP, which has offices in Minneapolis and San Francisco. The Hargrove action was filed by Reid H. Ervin & Associates, P.C., Plaintiff’s local counsel in Norfolk, Virginia.
