Sacred Heart University is exceptionally proud to honor the dedication of nurses everywhere during National Nurses Week. First celebrated in 1954 to mark the 100-year anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s mission to Crimea, National Nurses Week did not become formally established until 1990. In the intervening years, many non-permanent celebrations saluting the profession were observed. Then, in 1982, the American Nurses Association (ANA) formally set May 6th as “National Nurses Day.” A month later, President Ronald Regan officially signed “National Recognition Day for Nurses” into being. In 1990, the ANA expanded the celebration and permanently established National Nurses Week as beginning each year on May 6th and ending on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
With a more than 30-year history of excellence in nursing education, Sacred Heart University is committed to its core value of pursuing truth and knowledge and is dedicated to opening the door to nurses who wish to expand their skill sets and become agents of positive change.
To recognize the hard working nurses of today and help them take the first step toward a future full of possibilities, Sacred Heart University is offering fee-free application for its highly respected online nursing programs including RN-BSN, MSN, and the innovative RN-BSN-MSN program.
