We are delighted to be taking our close relationship to the next stage through implementing a system that will help Killgerm to achieve greater control of its expanding international business.

Killgerm, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of public health pest control products and a long-time Datel customer, is migrating from Sage Line 500 to the Sage ERP X3 enterprise resource planning system as its new software platform.

From the company’s global headquarters in Ossett, West Yorkshire, Finance Director Peter Kitson explains why Killgerm needed to implement a new solution: “We have a complex, multinational business and must ensure our full compliance with the national legislative and fiscal frameworks of the countries in which we operate. We’ve used Sage for many years, with Sage Line 500 supporting us well for the last seven. However, it required work-arounds for operations in multiple currencies and languages. This led to additional costs around our accounting processes in the different locations where the system is used.”

Peter recalls the in-depth decision-making process, begun in May 2011, through which a new solution was selected: “It certainly wasn’t a foregone conclusion that we would stay with Sage. We took the opportunity to have an open-minded look at the alternatives, including Microsoft AX and SAP, but were not convinced that these would meet our needs. Having decided to stay within the Sage fold, we initially considered a move to Sage 1000, but Sage ERP X3 jumped out as being perfect for us in having the multicurrency and multilanguage capabilities that were top of our wish-list. The decision almost made itself, but even so we were still cautious and grilled Datel thoroughly about its capabilities.”

Peter outlines the steps taken to ensure user acceptability in all the different countries: “We are keen to avoid the rejection possibilities that arise from the imposition of a new solution and have involved our colleagues across Europe, China and the US at every stage, with a project forum that ensured their views were heard. While the UK is set to be the first to adopt the solution, once again all the companies will contribute to its development, so that the initial UK implementation will provide an effective and appropriate blue-print for the subsequent international roll-out.”

Peter notes, “We are very confident that we have the right people to take us forward in the coming months. Datel has supported us all along in finding the solution that would best meet our needs. They’ve been our Sage Business Partner for four years now and understand what we’re trying to achieve as a business, while having in-depth knowledge of the technology, too. They are always very professional and know what they are talking about. It makes a big difference.”

Go-live for the UK implementation is planned for summer 2012. One of the developments Peter is looking forward to is improved reporting, especially in consolidated reporting on activity in multiple countries: “Currently, information held on major international customers and suppliers is spread throughout the different Killgerm companies, wherever a sale or purchase is made. With Sage ERP X3, we’ll be able to report instantaneously on all purchases of a particular product and global sales activity with a specific customer, whereas doing this in the past has been a very time-consuming process.”

Commenting on Killgerm’s decision to migrate, Andrew Pritchard, Account Development Director at Datel, says, “We are delighted to be taking our close relationship to the next stage through implementing a system that will help Killgerm to achieve greater control of its expanding international business. It is an exciting time; the first project meeting has just taken place and our project team is geared up to ensure Killgerm achieves its technological and commercial objectives across its international business.”
