Tradewinds Sailing School and Club, a Bay Area sailing club near Sacramento that offers sailing lessons, sailboat rentals and charter boats, is hosting a sailing safety seminar on May 17 at the West Marine store in Richmond. The seminar, titled “What’s in Your Seabag for Safe Sailing,” will be conducted by Tradewinds lead instructor Craig Walker and will run from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Craig has all of the experience you could ask for in this area,” Matt Kepner of Tradewinds Sailing School and Club said. “Not only can he tell you what you should have in your bag, but he can help you lighten your seabag by telling you what’s unnecessary or redundant. By the time you have the number of sailing miles that Craig has, you’ve pretty much got packing down to a science.”

The seminar is part of a joint venture between West Marine stores and the American Sailing Association, as the ASA Sailing School will be presenting safety seminars at West Marine stores throughout the country.

As part of the two-hour seminar, Walker will be opening his various seabags and going through their contents to provide insight on necessary sailing safety equipment. During the presentation, attendees will have the chance to ask questions about what Walker carries in his seabag and why the implements are important for sailing safety. With the seminar located at West Marine, those who attend will be able to test and purchase the sailing equipment that’s discussed during the seminar. The seminar presents a great opportunity to take inventory of seabags for offshore sailing, racing, crewing or just daysailing on the San Francisco Bay.

For more information about the safety presentation or any of Tradewinds’ other offerings, call the sailing club at 510-232-7999 or visit it on the Web at http://www.tradewindssailing.com. Tradewinds is located at 2580 Spinnaker Way in Richmond.
