Trajectory, the Cambridge, MA based publishing company has announced today, at The Beijing International Book Fair in Beijing, the Chinese edition of the New York Times Best Selling children’s classic Sally Goes to the Beach by Vermont artist and author Stephen Huneck. The Sally Series has been designed and packaged to read as an eBook. Chinese readers from all over the world may download these classics at Kobo and Amazon.
This beautifully illustrated and charming tale captures the imagination of readers and dog lovers of all ages. Sally, Vermont’s favorite black Labrador, takes a trip to the beach. Who will she meet and what will she do? Will she learn to swim or captain a boat? Luckily, Sally makes new friends everywhere she goes who show her many wonderful things to do in her travels. Sally Goes to the Beach incorporates high-resolution digital images of Stephen Huneck’s classic woodcut prints and a heartfelt storyline that captures Huneck’s sense of how dog’s think.
Stephen Huneck was an internationally acclaimed painter, sculptor and printer as well as the creator of the Dog Chapel in St. Johnsbury, VT, where he lived. Gwen Huneck commented, “My late husband, artist and author, Stephen Huneck was inspired to write and illustrate the Sally Series of children’s books by our very own black lab Sally. Much like Sally, Stephen was playful, curious and loved making new friends. I know he would be as delighted as I am, to introduce Sally to China.”
Patrick Leahy, a Vermonter, the state’s senior U.S. senator and a longtime friend of Stephen Huneck, said, “Stephen distilled the powerful bonds we have with our pets to reveal the pure wonder and beauty of these relationships. We all try to guess about the inner lives of the animals around us. Stephen seems to have figured it out.”
Jim Bryant, Trajectory’s CEO indicated, “We are at the dawn of a digital revolution as a new generation of children in China have the opportunity to engage with these popular stories on their mobile devices.”
