The paintings establish a surface tension, color and the celebration of geometry—simultaneously engaging and challenging the architectural container.

San Francisco interior designer Ian Stallings has been selected to participate in the Marin Designer Showcase, an elegant estate in Belvedere featuring designs by the top Bay Area artists, interior designers and architects. The Showcase, which benefits the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership, runs from January 31 through February 26, with many special events throughout its run.

The design strategy for the vestibule, corridor and scullery Stallings designed for the Marin Designer Showcase explores the dialogue between painting, sculpture and architecture. A series of site-specific paintings along the length of the corridor will amplify the perspectival relationships between the space and guests.

“The paintings establish a surface tension, color and the celebration of geometry—simultaneously engaging and challenging the architectural container,” said Stallings. “I am very grateful for the fine work of Architect Steve Const, who helped with the formatting of the exhibition, and Stefan Kirkeby, who framed the artwork that will be displayed.”

A large-scale anthropomorphic bronze sculpture will punctuate this experience and is intended to dimensionalize the emotional territory of the paintings. The overall experience will be one of subtle and balanced tension, encouraging the visitor to linger along this path.
